The Equivalent Project provides Equine Facilitated Learning, Development and Therapy for young people aged 7-25 struggling with their mental wellbeing and special educational needs, as well as both children and adults with autism and ADHD. In EFL sessions we observe the horses’ body language and communication, learning how they feel and interpreting that to ourselves. We use this basis to enable the young people to understand their own and other people’s feelings. We work on interpersonal and social skills, communication, self worth, self esteem and building confidence. The young people develop the ability to feel better about themselves and communicate to others how they are feeling, which then helps them avoid more challenging behaviours. Our sessions are fully adaptable to individual needs within a group or in individual sessions, using a student led and dynamic approach.
